Michael David easy-skankin’ at their annual REGGAE & RHONE concert

mystic3

Reggae master, Mystic Bowie

Oh lord, stuck in Lodi has never been so irie, mon… Michael David Winery continues with their 10th annual REGGAE & RHONE concert (Saturday, August 18, 6 PM), which will include an unbelievable Rhone style wine tasting under the winery’s gigantic weeping willow tree, a full-on Caribbean style barbecue dinner (by Stockton’s Breadfruit Tree), and the authentically Jamaican, so-jah-say, dem-belly-full, lively-up-yourself (and don’t say no!) sounds of Mystic Bowie and his band.

Reggae Rhone

Make no mistake:  this will be the Delta’s skankingest event of the year!

So while we’re talking about it, let’s go over the line-up of outstanding, multi-award winning Michael David wines you will be able to enjoy before and during this concert:

201o Michael David, Lodi Incognito White
2009 Michael David, Lodi Incognito Red
2010 Michael David, Bechthold Vineyard Lodi Cinsault
2010 6th Sense Syrah
2010 Michael David, Lodi Petite-Petit
2009 Earthquake, Lodi Petite Sirah

Here’s what makes the aforementioned wines so sick:  first, notice the Bechthold Vineyard Cinsault, which is a sumptuously rich yet satiny smooth, strawberry-rhubarb pie of a red wine fashioned from the oldest continuously farmed vineyard in all of Lodi (from vines originally planted in 1886) — outrageous!

Past vintages of the 6th Sense Syrah have garnered every gold medal in the book; and the 2010 — from arguably Lodi’s finest vintage in memory — follows suit with exciting, nostril tingling perfumes of violets and bursting berries, feeling like crushed velvet on the palate.

Then there is the 2010 Incognito White:  a mouth-watering, lime/lemony crisp, dry white wine, soft as silk and extravagantly scented with the honeysuckle notes of Viognier (62% of this blend), the apple crunchiness of Chardonnay, the honeydew of Sauvignon Blanc, and the exotic spices of the Muscat Blanc and Roussanne grapes.  Its red wine counterpoint, the 2009 Incognito Red, is an intoxicatingly soft, plummy, cracked peppercorn laced blend of Syrah, Cinsault (from the ancient Bechthold Vineyard), Carignane, Mourvèdre, Grenache, and the black, thick Tannat grape — jammin’!

And if that still doesn’t light your spliff, Michael David will also be serving these three delicious non-Rhone style wines:

2010 Lodi 7 Heavenly Chards
2009 Lodi 7 Deadly Zins
2010 Michael David, Freakshow Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon

Then, when Mystic Bowie takes his break in the dark of night, you  will be able to enjoy Michael David’s traditional REGGAE & RHONE fire show:  amazing pyrotechnic tricks, acrobatics, and yes, fear defying displays of fire eating prowess put on by a group of beautiful ladies known as Fire Pixie.  Has to be seen to be believed…

Tickets are $65 for general public ($55 for Michael David Wine Club members); just $45 for designated drivers.  To buy tickets or to get more information, call (888) 707-WINE, (209) 368-7384, or write vintage@michaeldavidwinery.com… and don’t be no drag!
