MEET OUR PEOPLE

Jonathan McMahan

Macchia / Winemaker

WHAT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT ASPECT OF MAKING WINE?
Stuck fermentations. That, or equipment breaking down in the middle of harvest.

HOW HAS THE LODI WINE REGION CHANGED OVER THE YEARS OR SINCE YOU’VE BEEN HERE?
There were 22 tasting rooms when we started, now there are over 85. I also believe that the quality of Lodi wines has improved.

WHAT MAKES A “GREAT” WINE?
Great grapes. You can’t make great wine without them.

PEOPLE SAY PARENTS DON’T HAVE A FAVORITE CHILD. IS THAT THE SAME WITH FARMERS AND VINEYARDS?
No. I definitely have favorite vineyards! Lucky for my daughter, she is an only child so she will always be the favorite.

WHAT ITEMS ARE CURRENTLY IN THE GLOVE BOX OR CENTER CONSOLE OF YOUR CAR OR TRUCK?
Receipts for all of the machinery which broke down during harvest this year.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LOCAL SPOT IN LODI?
I love being out on Lodi Lake or the Mokelumne River.

WHAT CHORE DO YOU ABSOLUTELY HATE DOING?
Having to fix things others have broken.
