MEET OUR PEOPLE

Gregg Lewis

The Dancing Fox Winery / Owner & Winemaker

WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND RAISED?
I was born in Compton, California. I moved to Lodi in 1980.

HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU BEEN MAKING WINE?
I've been making wine for nearly 30 years.

WHAT IS YOUR FIRST MEMORY OF WINE AND HOW DID YOU KNOW YOU WANTED TO BE A WINEMAKER?
When I was a teen, my buddies and I threw a party – we all borrowed wine from our parents' stash. We blended the wines and made a lot of bad wine. Nevertheless, we were determined to drink it all. Needless to say, after that, I stayed away from wine for a long time. When I moved up to Lodi in my twenties, someone shared some of the "good stuff" with me. The rest is history.

WHAT MAKES A GREAT WINE?
Great grapes are the most important aspect!

ANY ADVICE FOR SOMEONE JUST STARTING OUT AS A WINEMAKER?
Keep your passion alive, stay humble, and be persistent.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU’D LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT LODI?
It's a great place to raise a family.

WHAT CHORE DO YOU ABSOLUTELY HATE DOING?
Paperwork.

CURRENTLY, WHAT'S YOUR GO-TO DRINK?
Celery juice to start, followed by iced tea, and ending with beer or wine.
