2017 Ironstone Vineyards "Rous" Zinfandel
The Rous Vineyard, grafted entirely onto St. George rootstock, was planted in 1909 making this vintage spectacular 107-year-old vines. This 10 acre, single vineyard yields approximately 2.5 tons per acre of fruit with an incredible concentration of flavors. Fully mature grapes are hand harvested in early September and brought to the winery. They are fermented in our rotary fermenters then undergo extended fermentation and maceration. Aging for 10 months in small French oak allows for a multi-dimensional wine with aromas and flavors of ripe blackberries, brown spices, clove, caramel and slight vanilla. It finishes with well-rounded tannins and lingering dark fruit notes.
