In 1991 local growers voted
to fund the Lodi-Woodbridge Winegrape Commission. With its $1,000,000 annual
budget the Commission conducts programs in marketing, grower education and
viticultural research. The Commission represents almost 800 winegrowers farming
nearly 80,000 acres of winegrapes, and has successfully moved the Lodi region
well into the 21st Century.
- Over the past ten years
the acreage of winegrapes has nearly doubled while the crop value has
quadrupled.
- The number of "Lodi"
labeled wines has grown from only a handful in 1991 when the Commission was
formed to over 100 Lodi brands today.
- The Commission has
launched the industry's most successful district-wide sustainable viticultural
program to reduce pesticide and herbicide use, and sustain our vineyards for
generations to come.
- In 1998 partnered with
the City of Lodi to co-fund and manage the Lodi Conference & Visitors
Bureau.
- Recently opened the "Lodi
Wine & Visitor Center," the most exciting regional wine tasting center in
California.
