Introduction
Since the establishment of
the Lodi-Woodbridge Winegrape Commission in 1991 one of its primary goals has
been to fund research that provides Lodi growers with tools for improving
winegrape quality in an economically viable way. Over the years scientists at
the University of California and California State University have received
grants from LWWC to work on many topics such as pest management, irrigation
management, and vine nutrition management. In an effort to make the results of
this work available to all LWWC growers reports from this research are posted
here so they can be read on-line or downloaded and saved for later reading and
use. As new reports are submitted to LWWC by the researchers of currently
funded projects they will be posted here.
VITICULTURE:
Vineyard Nutrition
Management:
- Soil specific potassium
management in the Lodi winegrape region. Dr. Stu Pettygroves report from
his first year of research (2006). The goal of the three year project is to
provide Lodi growers with potassium management recommendations based on the
soil type present in the vineyard.

- Dr. Stu Pettygroves
report from his second year of research (2007)

Irrigation Management and
Wine Quality:
- Deficit irrigation of
quality winegrapes using micro-irrigation. Terry Prichard's 2004 handbook on
deficit irrigation for improving winegrape quality based on many years of
research in Lodi.

- The interaction of deficit
irrigation and extended maturation (hang time) on vine health, fruit yield and
quality of Syrah in 2005. A February 2006 report by Terry Prichard and
others.

- Irrigation management of
Merlot to modify vine and wine characteristics. A 2000 final project report by
Terry Prichard and Paul Verdegaal.

- Irrigation management of
Zinfandel to modify vine and wine characteristics. A final project report by
Terry Prichard and Paul Verdegaal. (file name: Prichard Zin Compr Report
2000)

- Vegetative effects of long
term water deficits on Cabernet Sauvignon. A 1998 final project report by Terry
Prichard and Paul Verdegaal.

Fate of Nitrogen from
Cover Crops:
- Uptake of nitrogen from
cover crops by winegrape vines in Lodi vineyard. The second year project report
by Alison Berry.

- Uptake of nitrogen from
cover crops by winegrape vines in Lodi vineyard. The first year project report
by Alison Berry.

Effects of Cover Crops on
Microbial Communities in Vineyard Soil:
- Edwards, M. and K. Scow.
2001. Effects of different kinds of cover crops on the microbes in Lodi
vineyard soils. A final project report by Margaret Edwards and Kate Scow.

Soil Microbial
Inoculation:
- Effects of inoculating
soil with microbes on Zinfandel winegrape performance and water relations. A
2004 report by Terry Prichard and others.

PEST MANAGEMENT:
Fan leaf
virus:
- Evaluation of
fanleaf-resistant rootstock selections for use in the Lodi region. A 2003
report by Andy Walker and Paul Verdegaal.

Mating Disruption for
Omnivorous Leafroller:
- Using pheromone confusion
(mating disruption) to control Omnivorous leafroller. A 2001 report by Chuck
Ingels.

Eutypa
Dieback:
- Influence of vine training
systems, pruning practices, and soil types on Eutypa dieback incidence and
severity, viticultural performance, and wine quality in Cabernet Sauvignon
grapevines. A final project report by Sanliang Gu and others.

- Effect of training-pruning
regimes on Eutypa dieback and performance of Cabernet Sauvignon grapevines. A
2005 publication in the Journal of Horticulture Science & Biotechnology of
Sanliang Gu's long-term work in Lodi on Eutypa dieback.

Grower Surveys evaluating
LWWC's IPM Program:
- A report by Jeff Dlott
summarizing the results of the LWWC IPM Program grower surveys carried out in
1998 and 2003.
