WINES OF LODI!
FLIGHT #1 BLUSHES ($3)
BLUSH WINE: Slightly sweet wine created from red wine grapes, but the wines aren’t red because the grape juice is left in contact with the red skins for a very short time. Formerly known as rosé, this wine became popular in the 1960s and early ‘70s, and is now making a comeback.
1. 2000 GLEN ELLEN WHITE ZINFANDEL, Sonoma, CA $7.00
Fresh strawberry, watermelon and citrus fruit aromas follow through to a palate of crisp acidity balanced with sweet berry flavors in the finish. This wine would pair well with baked ham, turkey, pizza, or spicy Asian dishes.
2. 1999 RUTHERFORD VINTNERS WHITE MERLOT, Napa, CA $8.00
The nose of this wine is comprised of a soft floral fragrance. Mouth-watering strawberry and watermelon flavors abound in this lush, fruity wine.
3. 2001 SUTTER HOME WHITE MERLOT, Sonoma, CA $8.00
This white Merlot displays a bright, light red color with fresh, ripe cherry and raspberry aromas. Its soft, round cherry and berry flavors are complemented with a touch of tannin for structure.
FLIGHT #2 MERLOTS ($3)
MERLOT: Originating in France, it is a distant cousin to the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. Merlots are typically soft and lush, with flavors of plum, blueberry and cherry.
1. 2000 WOODBRIDGE, Woodbridge, CA $9.00
Notes of ripe plums and berries weave through the complex aromas and flavors of this Merlot. Aging in small oak barrels creates hints of spices and toasty vanilla with a lingering, soft finish. Try pairing this wine with grilled lamb, beef, pork or poultry.
2. 1999 IRONSTONE, Murphys, CA $10.00
Lush flavors of juicy black cherries are combined with hints of soft plums, vanilla and cedar to create this approachable, balanced wine. This Merlot is best enjoyed with light pasta dishes, wild game, turkey and dark chocolate.
3. 1999 KREIG’S KELLAR, Lockeford, CA $13.00
Aged 19 months in American oak, this wine has a silky, soft palate. Fruit flavors and a hint of green peppers leave you with a crisp, lingering finish.
FLIGHT #3 ZINFANDEL ($3)
California is the premiere region for growing Zinfandel grapes. Characterized as a medium to full-bodied wine with moderate acidity, Zinfandel wine is noted for the blackberry jam and black pepper aromas and flavors. The light and fruity white Zinfandel style wine is also made from this versatile grape.
1. 2000 MAKOR, Santa Maria, CA $15.00
Another great Zinfandel from Mohr-Fry Ranch. This rich and delectable wine has pleasant berry flavors followed by a wonderful spicy character.
2. 2000 BARGETTO, Soquel, CA $12.00
The vines used to produce this wine come from Rauser Vineyard, which is situated on the banks of the Mokelumne River. Hints of sweet oak add to aromas of ripe cherries and berries found in the nose of this wine. This silky smooth Zinfandel will complement all meat and pasta dishes.
3. 2000 STARRY NIGHT, Navato, CA $18.00
The jammy raspberry and black cherry aromas and flavors of this wine are balanced with an intriguing spice character. Aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels, this fruity Zinfandel is a treat to the palate.
