Lodi Wine Events
Learn the fine art of winemaking as the Lodi Wine & Visitor Center launches new educational seminars on the basics of blending wine. Each guest will create their own unique blend using five different wines. The seminar will include instruction on basic Sensory Evaluation Skills followed by a tasting and discussion. Guests will be shown the necessary techniques to assemble their blends and then be given the opportunity to create, taste, and discuss their finished product.
It all begins in the vineyard. Guests will first be given a tour of the Visitor Center's demonstration vineyard showing the many varieties grown in the Lodi Appellation. Lodi has been the major wine grape growing region since the 1850's and leads wine grape producation in Chardonnay, Merlot, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blanc. Guests will then be given a tour of the Visitor Center and information about the Lodi wine region.
Then, learn the "Fine Art of Blending". What is a winemaker looking for when creating a masterpiece? How do you add color, different flavor profiles or aroma? Do you like a strong oak flavor and will it be American, French or Hungarian? Would you like a fruit forward, berry aroma or a spicy, woody aroma? Will the finish be long, heavy and tannic or soft, light, fruity? Utilize your palate to combine the various elements of each blend and create your very own wine! And, of course, enjoy the fruit of your labor as you drink your artistic creation.
The cost is $20 per person or $15 for wine club members. The Lodi Wine & Visitor Center is located at 2545 W. Turner Rd in Lodi. For additional information, contact Michael Perry at (209) 365-0621 or michael@lodiwine.com. Also, visit www.lodiwine.com for information on Lodi Wine Country.
