8 romantic things to do in Lodi, and February hotel specials

Romance always in the air (and wine) at Wine & Roses Hotel

Being in Lodi Wine Country  is always romantic enough.  The folks at Lodi’s luxurious, four-star Wine & Roses Hotel would tell you that – if you happen to walk in with someone you’re just dating, there’s a high percentage chance that you’ll walk out engaged or significantly more committed.  In Lodi, love is in the air, or is it the water or wine?

If you’re ready for that – why not?  What the world needs now, after all, is more love, not oceans, mountains or moonbeams.

With that in mind, Nancy Beckman, President/CEO of Visit Lodi!, and  her staff have helped us put together a strong list of terribly romantic things to do in Lodi, especially during Lodi Wine & Chocolate Weekend.

Ms Beckman also reminds everyone that there are still a number of good package deals available from some of Lodi’s finer hotels (please see our listing below, or check out Visit Lodi! Special Offers).  Could give new meaning to those catchy lyrics in Stuck in Lodi.  Or as Bill Withers once sang, if it feel this good being used

8 ROMANTIC THINGS TO DO IN LODI

1.  Revitalize your body and your relationship with a luxurious couples massage at the Spa at Wine & Roses Hotel.

2.  Bundle up in a blanket-for-two and enjoy a horse and carriage winery tour from All Seasons Carriage Company.

3.  What is more romantic than a picnic lunch at a winery?  For one-stop shopping, confer with the super-friendly folks at Cheese Central in Downtown Lodi – they’ll help you pick out the artisanal cheeses from their enormous selection that are exactly to your taste, plus cured meats, artisanal bread, local olive oil and fabulous condiments from their pantry. Ideal picnic spots:  Peirano Estate, Michael David Winery, Jessie’s Grove Winery, or Borra Vineyards (please plan on purchasing wine from wineries when borrowing picnic grounds or tables).

4.  For the adventure seeker, surprise your loved one with a breakfast or lunch at the Lodi Airport Café – followed (better yet, preceded) by a Tandem Sky Dive from 13,000 feet up!

5.  Go see a romantic comedy at Downtown Lodi’s Lodi Stadium 12 Cinemas.

6.  Plan your own dine-around (for any day other than February 14!):  pick three or four restaurants, and enjoy a libation and discreet course at each stop!  This gives you and your sweetheart a wonderful opportunity to savor the best that Lodi has to offer.  Broad hints:  Alebrijes Mexican Bistro (tableside guacamole and killer infused margaritas and moles), Bamboo Basil Noodles & Grill (fresh pho, table-top grills), Crush Kitchen + Bar (great wine list), Pietro’s Trattoria (hand-made ravioli to die for), Rosewood Bar & Grill (steaks ‘n zins), School Street Bistro (amazingly crunchy appetizers and salads), Yume Japanese Cuisine (chili spiked sushi), and Towne House (très élégant dining, with comfy late-evening piano bar and nightcaps) at Wine & Roses Hotel are among the locals’ favorites.

7.  Shop together for all the goodies needed for a romantic night “in.”   Some suggestions?  Lodi’s largest selection of locally grown wines at Lodi Wine & Visitor Center, pâtés at Fiori’s Butcher Shoppe, chocolates at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, bath salts from Sea Salt Cottage, and last but not least, the silken, lacy gift wrapping – lingerie from Sensually Spoiled Rotten!

8.  “About-last-night” place for late morning coffee, croissants and sweet nothings?  Lodi’s coziest spot is undoubtedly The Dancing Fox Winery & Bakery, a wood fire oven boulangerie open every day except Mondays.  But if you are absolutely famished, the wine country digs of Phillips Farms Café (also housing Michael David Winery’s tasting room — glasses of Zinfandel or Viognier for brunch, anyone?) are always hard to beat!
